At last

Yes, it has taken a while to get something written. Hopefully it will not be so long in the future.

LRD has recently been re-designed and given a new look. There is information on the services that I provide plus work examples and a bit of background information.

Now that’s out of the way what will I write about in the future? There is already a vast amount of designers and developers out there who write about web development and the like, so for the most part I will pass that by.

So that leaves everything else! I would imagine that most of it will be related to ‘design’ in some shape or form. I will dry and mix it up with an array of interrelated topics.

There is a touring exhibition opening in the UK in June by Designer Bookbinders, a society devoted to the craft of fine bookbinding. The exhibition is of a commemorative book of essays and memoirs celebrating the Welsh artist Sir Kyffin Williams, who died in 2006 and was produced by Gwasg Gregynog. Willliams is one of Wales’ most celebrated artists and famous for his elemental paintings of the North Wales landscape. It is illustrated with a selection of the artist’s linocuts printed directly from the original blocks, including some unpublished works. The exhibition will be on tour from June to November, accompanied by a 64-page full colour catalogue. The dates for the exhibition are as follows:

7 - 8 June
Gwasg Gregynog, Tregynon, Newtown, Powys

14 June - 2 August
The National Library of Wales, Penglais, Aberystwyth

13 - 30 August
Contemporary Applied Arts, 2 Percy Street, London

9 September - 5 October
Stour Gallery, 10 High St., Shipston-on-Stour

11 October - 13 November
The John Rylands Library, 150 Deansgate, Manchester

If you are in any of the above areas when the exhibition is on I would definitely go along and see some original design through the craft of bookbinding.
